Life certificates and a letter of congratulations from Dr. Deborah Turner, President , League of Women Voters of the United States were presented to Jackie Fleschman and Janet Imhoff at our annual meeting in May. Life Members have been continuous members of the League of Women Voters for 50+ years.
Jackie Fleschman joined LWV in 1973 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, which later became the Johnson County LWV. She was familiar with LWV since her mother had been on the local and state boards in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jackie served as the secretary, treasurer, and Observer Corp Chair in the local league and was the Finance Drive Chair on the state board. After moving to Plano, she held various roles on the board, including secretary, Publicity Chair, and annual meeting planner. She participated in many voter registration events. Jackie said "I have been so honored and lucky to meet so many outstanding women (and occasionally men), and so pleased with the information I have tried to learn. I can't say thanks enough for the privilege of being a League of Women Voters member."
Janet Imhoff joined LWV in 1972 in Sherman, TX. LWV Sherman was a newly formed League and Janet found the meetings and discussions stimulating, interesting, and fun. She served on the board there as President from 1977-1979. In 2002, Janet transferred to LWV-Collin County. She served as membership and program chairs. Janet also served on the board of LWVTX from 2003-2012 and 2018-2022 as Voters Service, Program, and Advocacy chairs. Janet said, "The League has always been a big part of my life, and I call it one of my main hobbies. I feel it is a way to be involved in politics without being partisan. I think the nonpartisanship of the League is one of its greatest missions and attributes."
