President's Message
from Janet Imhoff |
I hope you are having a great summer staying in from the heat and maybe doing some traveling. Our new Board has been busy making plans for the fall as we enter a new League year. Specific information on future programs will be coming soon, but for now we have two events planned.
Our kick-off event will be a fundraiser social for members and friends, “The Art of Democracy,” to be held at the ArtCentre of Plano on September 16 from 3-5 pm. See Fundraiser Chair Liz Holland's article in this newsletter. Please feel free to invite friends for wine and nibbles, art, and drawings for gifts. We will also hear from one or two area mayors. See more information and register to attend.
LWV-CC will host an Environmental Impact forum on August 22 at 6 pm at the Plano Environmental Education Center. We will hear from speakers from Downwinders and the Sierra Club. Here is the link to register. Don’t miss it!
We plan to reactivate our Observer Corps to have a presence at various city councils, school boards, and county commissioners meetings. Watch for information about how you can become a League Observer at these important meetings.
Don’t forget our ongoing League Lunches (third Tuesdays) and League Book Club (second Wednesday every other month). See Membership Chair Sharon Goldgar’s articles in this newsletter.
Watch for LWV-CC Facebook posts and like them to help get the word out.
See you soon,
Janet
